Prospective Graduate Students

Dr. Van Hell will not be recruiting new graduate students for the 2025-2026 application cycle.

You can learn more about the current graduate students.

For the current application cycle, please visit the Department of Psychology website to see how to apply, and be sure to check out the Center for Language Science and the Program in Linguistics to learn more about pursuing a dual title with Language Science.

Additionally, to learn more about the NSF Graduate Research Traineeship program please visit LinDiv’s website. This program trains current graduate students through a two-year graduate certificate program that educates a new generation of experts in human-technology interaction who can create technological innovations that benefit a broad range of linguistically and culturally diverse language users of different ages and of different abilities.

Prospective Undergraduate Research Assistants

There are many research opportunities for students interested in particular languages (e.g., Spanish, German, Chinese, American Sign Language), but you don’t have to speak a second language yourself. We seek students who are curious, enthusiastic, and responsible, and who seek training in experimental and neurocognitive research related to language processing.

Research experience (PSYCH 494), independent study (e.g., LING 496), and work study positions are available for undergraduate students who are eligible.

Please contact Dr. van Hell at jgv3@psu.edu if you are interested.
