Board Creaser Orig 1

Photos showing the original “shin-buster” and the modified version, hinged and safely secured out of the way. The drawings for this modification are available upon request. There is also another modification that eliminates the stuck-on matrix that opposes the creaser bar. That suggestion needs to be written up.    Bill Minter   wdm14@psu.edu

Adding to the earlier post — Modern rendition of the traditional fore-edge painting:  This close-up shows the screen-printing on one page as well as the adjacent fanned-out pages. The photo is part of the letter G from the back of the book that shows: “Good Is Dead”. The photo was taken with a Dino-Lite digital microscope.

Fore edge printing

“The Cheese Monkeys”  a novel written and designed by Chip Kidd has a unique fore-edge printed text, similar to a traditional fore-edge painting. When the book is closed there is nothing and when the book is fanned in the opposite direction there is another phrase: “Good Is Dead”.  Chip Kidd is a graduate of Penn State. An exhibition of his work is on view at the Penn State University Libraries.
