Our farewell party

We don’t leave Macha until Friday, but tonight we threw our farewell party for the friends we have made on our research teams and in the community. Not everyone came who said they would, but we still had a blast! The menu was PB & J squares, grilled cheese squares, pasta with red sauce, roasted potatoes, baked oatmeal, Alyssa’s orange breadcake, popcorn, cooked sausage, and roasted peanuts. Dr. Freiberg and Becky brought s’mores supplies for us and so after dinner we took everyone outside around a fire to introduce them to s’mores (and marshmallows in general)!  Everyone loved the s’mores, and even some of the shyer women participated in roasting/making their own. Once it got very dark and our guests had left, Dr. Freiberg brought out his high-powered laser pointer and pointed out stars and constellations to us in the clear sky as we sat around the fire. I distinctly saw the milky way for the first time! I’m going to miss the bright night sky here…
