PAS 4S: Your Own Private Island?

Join me, and in this semester you will learn more about tourist attractions in my home country, Brazil. By the end of this series, you will love Brazil as I do, and I am certain that in your next college break your bags will be ready to make a visit! Who loves the sun, to spend hours on the beach, and likes the nature? If so, this paradisiac island was meant for you to visit!

If you want a smooth holiday, there isn’t a lot that you need to know before you visit the VIP island in Brazil: Fernando de Noronha, an exclusive island with less than 500 visitors allowed per day. It is located 220 miles off the north east cost of Brazil. Noronha is an archipelago of 21 islands, in fact 70% of this archipelago is a marine national park. It also has superb beaches with no fewer than 16 to choose from.

Aside from lounging away the day on the beach, Fernando de Noronha also offers diving, surfing, hiking, snorkeling and more. At the end of an active day, people watch the sun dip into the sea from the stunning Boldró beach.

Unfortunately, paradise comes at a cost and the region is one of the most expensive in the country. A 10-day admission pass to the park costs 330 BRL, in addition to a daily environmental conservation fee to access this UNESCO World Heritage Site. However, if you’re looking for a deserted island experience with a pinch of luxury, then Noronha is the place for you! From my own experience, I highly recommend.

Another activity that people dive into is renting dune buggies. It is the most common and practical way to get around the island, and you can explore the more secluded parts of the islands that lie off the main road. You’ll get a different perspective of the long white beaches, jungle-like vegetation, and towering cliffs. However, some places required tours to visit: like visits to hidden caves and islands.

At the end of a long day of exploring, there’s nothing better than kicking back and watching a beautiful sunset. The sunsets over the water are magnificent no matter where you are on the island, but some popular spots are Nossa Senhora dos Remédios Fort, São Pedro do Boldró Fort, or Boldró Beach.

But when to go to Noronha?  Don’t worry, it is a paradise all year long! Temperatures don’t vary much, and the rainy season lasts from May to August, but rainfall is sporadic and never lasts long. August to December are the most popular times to visit, but remember, since the island only allows less than 500 people on a day, it’s never too crowded!

  1. The picture that you included of the sunset on the Boldró beach is absolutely beautiful! I can totally see and appreciate why a view like that would be expensive. Overall, Noronha looks like such a beautiful and fun place to go visit. I love how much pride you have for Brazil and I am glad you are sharing its beauty.
