SNL Love Struck Review

At some point in all of our lives we have been bullied; someone says or does something to you that is so immature and ignorant that you just wish you could disappear.

Now while the majority of people ignore these malicious comments, some have resulted to taking on these bullies head on. As a humorous take on this reaction, SNL suggests in a recent skit “Love Struck” with Ronda Rousey, that bullies are the one perhaps that should be worried now.

The scene opens with Beck Bennett leading in Ronda Rousey to an adorably, cheesy dinner in the school gym. The seem to perfectly capture the teenage awkwardness of those first dates as they talk. Then the skit takes a turn for what seems to be the worst and Vanessa Bayer appears along with Kate McKinnon, Sasheer Zamata, and Jon Rudnitsky to mock Ronda for thinking she was ever good enough for her boyfriend, Beck Bennett, eating dog food, and her clothes. As soon as Ronda pulls out the pout, our hearts immediately go out to her as flashbacks pour in of our own experiences with bullies.

Just when you want to give Ronda a hug for enduring a mental beating, the tides turn on Vanessa Bayer.

Ronda Rousey pulverizes Vanessa Bayer; she slaps, punches, knees in the gut, and slams her head on the table. In the middle of the beating we are graced with Ronda’s famous “fight face.”

To perfectly end the commercial Simple Mind’s “Don’t You (Forget About Me)” plays and Ronda goes out in style with Judd Nelson’s fist in the air in celebration and suddenly we all feel motivated to take on the world.

Just before the scene ends, the message, “1 in 5 bullies will be a victim of Mixed Martial Arts. Don’t be a statistic. A message by Bullies Against Mixed Martial Arts (BAMM!)” comes onto the screen to further SNL’s humorous take on bullies.

You keep doing you, Ronda.

This sounds like a great skit. It’s empowering to victims of bullies as well as a humorous warning to everyone else. Everyone needs a little SNL in their lives, it always has something great to say in an entertaining way.

I absolutely love SNL! My favorite sketches are those that involve political candidates or The Bachelor spoofs. I like the way that this particular sketch takes a real life issue and gives us the ability to laugh at it.

Ha! I love this for so many reasons. First of all, this is literally every high school themed movie (until the end obviously). I obviously support standing up to bullies and I’m pretty sure that was SNLs message?

I love SNL for this reason. Addressing real life daily issues with comedy and exaggeration. The MMA bit was hysterical in the way it paints bullies as helpless victims.

HAHAHA. This skit was glorious. Although, MMA fighting may not be the most ideal way to deal with bulling. It may be a little to… violent. But this skit was really crated to shows people that things like this do happen in schools and needs to be looked at.

This is beautiful. While I don’t think that reacting to bullying with starting an MMA fight is an entirely… ethical way to go, I still find this skit very amusing. For the sake of comedy, and long-held grudges, I approve of this instance of fighting fire with fire… and throwing people into tables.
