Italy – Lacrosse, the Vatican, and Lake Como

Our next stop is in Italy! This trip was definitely one of the most memorable of them all and I cannot wait to share it with you. The reason why I came to Italy in the first place was because I was selected to play on the USA U19 lacrosse team in an international tournament over the summer. I was beyond ecstatic when I received that email and it was such a huge honor to be able to represent my country overseas in the game of lacrosse. The itinerary of this trip was not to just play a few games and then come back home, but we were taken on a 15 day tour of the entire country! We visited places like Rome, Venice, Lake Como, Florence, Milan, and many other unique and beautiful cities in Italy. My two favorite places that I visited were Rome and Lake Como, and I want to share my experience with all of you!

Best Things to Do in Vatican City

As some of you may know, Rome is the capital of Italy and was the first place we toured on our trip. A few days in, we went to the Vatican City, which is its own fully functioning and independent mini-state within Rome, famously known for the Vatican. We dressed in professional clothing that covered our legs and shoulders so that we were allowed to enter the Vatican. There were no phones allowed inside so we could not take pictures, but I have never seen more of a beautiful and holy place in my life. The famous chapel with Michelangelo’s paintings, halls full of artifacts, medieval architecture and statues, and a great sense of calmness, peace, and holiness was an experience that I will never forget and cherish for the rest of my life. If any is able to, especially the Christians that are in my audience, I would highly recommend taking a visit.

My other favorite destination was Lake Como, which you can guess by the name, is a massive lake that has the city of Como surrounding it. There are clear blue waters and great wildlife that occupy this lake, as well as an abundance of foothills filled with lush vegetation and the most stunning homes I have ever seen. The richest of the rich are able to build homes on this lake and each one has its own story to tell with its unique architecture and landscaping. The city itself has been stores to shop in that sell one of a kind jewelry and clothing, special to Lake Como, and the food was delectable.

Lake Como was also where I had the privilege to play lacrosse at a field that sat in the middle of the mountains. Team USA played against Team Germany, Team Europe, and Team Italy, where we went undefeated over the few days. I had a total of 27 goals in those five games and we clinched the championship title! I met so many great people and players from around the nation and I am hoping to one day return to Italy!
