Lamp and Table for an Engineering Design Class

During my freshman year of college I learned how to use SolidWorks, a computer aided design program, in my engineering design class. I built components of objects out of basic geometric shapes using the extrude and cut tool. Additionally, using individual parts I learned how to perform assemblies and put these elements together to make objects such as a lamp and a table.

During my sophomore year I expanded upon the software design skills previously learned and created a full scale sidewinder missile for a SolidWorks design competition at Penn State. Due to the aerodynamics of my design the slender body results in a low drag force which untimely enables long range capabilities of this missile. It also has been designed with a wing aspect ratio that promotes steady level flight once fired from a fighter jet.

As a future aerospace engineering I aspire to design aircraft and spacecraft components using computer aided design. The technical writing skills I’ve acquired in my junior year will supplement the SolidWorks skills I currently have and help me achieve this career goal. Technical witting skills will be useful in the workplace since it will help me describe what my design are capable of. Additional, I’ll have the ability to translate my intended purpose for the components I construct. For my future internship starting in the summer of 2015, pairing technical writing and computer aided design skills will certainly be expected. My ability to perform in this area will stand out to my supervisor and illustrate I am well fit to be an aerospace engineer.
