Global Awareness Dialogue Project

"The mark of wisdom lies, more than anything else, in the ability to listen.” – Daisaku Ikeda

The Global Awareness Dialogue Project

is a Penn State Abington faculty development program to educate faculty about global and cultural issues related to culturally sensitive pedagogy. The seminars examine the impacts of changing demographics within our campus community, which include a growing international student population and a diverse domestic student population. Previous seminars centered around topics of non-western educational systems, Chinese undergraduate student adjustment to campus life, academic integrity, and multilingual students and faculty. A key aspect of the seminars are a panel of international and/or immigrant undergraduate students discussing their challenges and adjustments to college life.

The GADP Model

Each session is structured as a seminar and encompasses the following;

  • Invitation to faculty via listserv
  • Pre-Work
  • Dinner and Fellowship
  • Guest Speakers
  • Student Panel
  • Participant Dialogue
  • Take-home resource packets
  • Online Assessment

The GADP was established to encourage exploration of non-western educational systems representative of our students. The seminars also present information on contemporary issues in education related to internationalization.
