Love Advice from the Great Duke of Hell – The Gag Comic to End Them All

Another week, another WEBTOON to look at! This week, it’s Love Advice from the Great Duke of Hell, a comic built entirely on its comedy and random humor. Created by unfins, Love Advice was actually a winner of a WEBTOON comic pitch contest in 2018. The first few episodes were released at the end of that year, and the story concluded three years later, in December 2022. The WEBTOON was very successful during its life, especially at the beginning (The first 50 episodes had over 100,000 likes!). It has been viewed over 100 million times and has had 1.3 million readers. Love Advice from the Great Duke of Hell is a recent WEBTOON favorite.

Brief Introduction:

Paul wants to summon a demon. He has fallen in love with a cute girl who works at the nearby cafe but doesn’t know how to approach her and ask her out. So obviously, the course of action is to summon a demon from Hell… through a trusty tattered spellbook he found at the library. Paul makes a contract with a Great Duke of Hell, Astaroth, to give him the power to get a girl to fall in love with him for his soul. Hijinks ensue as a demon roams Paul’s house, and they try to devise a plan to obtain Elena’s love. Paul’s sister runs away in fear to hide in a forest, he kidnaps Elena’s coworker, yet he still fails to talk to Elena. That is, until he simply gets a job at the cafe. Along with that comes a date, but then something entirely unexpected happens: Paul is flat-out killed by a car.

Review Time!

You could honestly get a perfect reaction image from any episode of this webcomic (because that’s about 90% of what it is). As the title says, Love Advice is entirely a gag comic made for stupid fun and random, unexpected conversations. There isn’t too much of a plot other than what was already stated, but it’s still good fun to read. I think the art style is really nice and definitely expressive, and nothing is ever what you expect. I did not think too much of Love Advice from the Great Duke of Hell when I first started, as it seemed like something just for goofs, but it really picks up after a bit (in a Chekhov’s gun sort of way). So if you’re ever bored and need a good stupid time, this is the perfect WEBTOON for it, and you just might not expect what you’re really getting into.

(There’s so much amazing art that it’s hard not to include more)

Calvin, from your description this webtoon sounds absolutely hilarious. Definitely one I will have to visit wen I am in need of a laugh. You commented at the end that its hard not to include more and I would definitely encourage you to add as many images as you think fit. I think the nature of this blog seems to work really well with images from the webtoons themselves. I love how you describe the main character and the demon. I think it is hilarious how the webtoon ends, and is definitely not something you would expect. Can’t wait til next week!!!

The conclusion is unbelievable! It sounded so much like my friend in real life, maybe not the car crash part. I personally do not need love advice, but for someone who is desperate: there’s definitely a lesson from this story, which is to pursue what you love because once you missed it, it’s gone. I resonate with this a lot, life is full of opportunities, and there’s no going back or undo-bottom in life. I recommend watching the Japanese Netflix series called “First Love”, it talked about a high school couple who is deeply in love, then the boy joined the army… the girl lost… Here you go, that’s all I have to say. It inspires you to think about love and how much it weighs. I’m always here if you need love advice:)

Hey Calvin this certainly looks like a super fun read! I got to say, I was wholly caught off guard after seeing what happens in the ending while reading the overview you provided, it certainly seems like a morbidly comical end to the series that makes me want to read it even more now. I Love the way you presented the story in the summary, it really grabbed the reader’s attention and made them fascinated in what you had to say about the story next.

Hey Calvin, this was yet again a very interesting blog post. From the way you describe it, I can tell that this WEBTOON is so funny because the turn of events are so random. This would definitely be a good read and I can’t wait to hear about the next story. You always choose very interesting stories to talk about.
