To Whom It May Concern:
After attending Spring Gove Area High School and becoming more confident in my future career plans—I have become very interested in a high school counseling position. While I realize I have many more years of study ahead of me in order to obtain a counseling position, I would like to begin on this path by acquiring experience. There are many aspects within social service that can prepare me for this future occupation. After I obtain my bachelor’s degree from The Pennsylvania State University, I hope to work with the adolescent age group to better suit my future occupational standard.
I feel I have adequate ethical knowledge, and the basic knowledge of a Humanistic theoretical approach to help individuals and to help myself in a social service setting. I have taken many Human Development and Family Studies classes, ranging from ethical decision making to the study the healthy helping relationship. I have participated in projects focusing on the family systems, role-play observation, and family genograms. In the end, I feel these projects can give me a real insight into the lives of clients. As an adolescent, I had many family issues throughout high school. I was fortunate enough to have a high school counselor to aid me in the resolution to these issues. Through these experiences, my career path was set, and my thirst to help individuals with similar problems was born.
I believe that my desire to expand my knowledge and help others could prove to be an asset within your institution. I hope that my qualifications are ample enough to be considered for this internship. I would appreciate the opportunity for an interview, and I hope to speak with you soon.
Wishing you the best,
Cody R. Grimm
