To celebrate the launching of this year-long initiative, the DEEC Outreach and Service Subcommittee is hosting a Reader Leaders Week from November 14-20.
Each morning, leaders from the Penn State Harrisburg community will host daily sessions to encourage and inspire young children to nurture a love of reading. Dr. Wanda Knight, Assistant Dean for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, will lead our community as a key reader on Tuesday, November 15 alongside the Nittany Lion in the Kulkarni Theatre.

Volunteer as a Reader!
All members of the Penn State Harrisburg community (faculty, staff, students, athletes, student clubs, etc.) are encouraged to join the project by volunteering as a reader!
Resources are available for volunteers—readers may request to borrow a book from one of several mini libraries set up across the Harrisburg campus.
About the Program
Created and sustained by local leaders Floyd and Madi Stokes and their family, the Reading 365 Program coordinates volunteers to conduct virtual reading sessions for children in pre-K through 2nd grade. At Penn State Harrisburg, readers will focus on books communicating diversity related themes and critical messages of kindness, empathy, belonging, and togetherness supported by vibrant and colorful illustrations.
