Emily Wilkinson, the creator of botlfilter, used her passion for the environment to make money. About a decade ago, she formed Botl Inc. and released a portable water filter called botlfilter. Her primary goal for this product was to reduce the use of plastic and the waste generated by it. Since plastic bottle production amounts to 17 million barrels of crude oil used per year, her product offers consumers an option to reduce that number.
Overall, I believe that this product is extremely useful. Since botlfilter is a portable filter rather than a water bottle with a filter built-in, I believe that it would be extremely useful. The issue with water bottles that have built-in filters is that many of us may forget to bring that bottle with us or forget to clean it after use. Instead, a product such as botlfilter allows us to stick the filter in any container of water then pop it back in our purse or glove compartment when done. On another note, even though botlfilter doesn’t directly reduce the use of fossil fuels, it does indirectly because it encourages consumers to not consume bottled water. Therefore, reducing the demand of bottled water may result in a decline of production. If production declines, the use of fossil fuels to produce those bottles will also decline.
