Personally, I’ve never watched any anime (besides a couple Studio Ghibli movies, if those even count) and I’m not one for blood and gore at all, but this seems like a cool anime to watch with friends on a Friday night in. A screaming-at-the-screen-in-excitement-and-outrage kind show. The plot and its description do seem a bit twisty and confusing (you did mention it’s not at all linear) but I’ve found myself confused with all the different characters and events. And what, in any case, is a third/fourth degree vampire? I need the answer for research purposes 🙂
The only anime I have ever watched is One Punch Man. While I know that OPM is seen as a very “beginner” anime, your explanation of a character who cannot lose reminds me of that show. In the show, OPM is brought into a depression based on his inability to lose in a fight, and I wonder if Alucard faces any similar feelings throughout the show. The next time I am in the mood for gore for gore’s sake, I will definitely give this a try.
