KonoSuba

This anime caught my attention because it had a relatively good relationship with Dungeons and Dragons, a game I play in my free time. This anime makes it on the list for its creativity and hilarious plot. KonoSuba is written by Natsume Akatsuki and produced by Rie Ogura.

The Characters

The main protagonist is named Kazuma, and he starts as a regular guy who is obsessed with video games. One day he goes out of the house for once and hallucinates the image that a girl is about to get run over by a truck. Of course, this did not happen, and he died of a heart attack in the process. Once he dies, he gets sent to a fantasy world and makes a group with certain people. Aqua is a goddess who offered to reincarnate him into a fantasy world, which Kazuma chooses to take Aqua into with him. She cannot return to the afterlife until the main villain, the Devil King, is defeated. They then come across a wizard who specializes in explosion magic. Her name is Megumin, and she can only use her magic once per day since it is so powerful. She can create explosions the size of large cities, and it destroys everything in its path. The fourth member in the group is named Darkness, who is a crusader but is particularly lewd in battle.

The Plot

While Kazuma has no intention of defeating the Devil King, he gets wrapped into battles with his generals, anyway. Of course, Aqua wants to get the job done as quickly as possible, but they need to level up and get stronger by fighting weaker enemies. They take on guild requests and go on missions to try and level up, eventually bringing one of the Devil King’s generals to their home town. Ultimately, that battle is won, but they have to pay for the damages to the city. This process continues until Kazuma is charged with crimes, and he has to go to court and plead innocent. This process is lengthy, and the doings of his team do not help his cause. They had been continuously trying to break him out of the prison he was being held in until the trial began, of course failing.

Complete Nonsense

A lot of the story involves the group getting involved in unimportant events that do not affect the plot of the story. The citizens are not very bright and see them as Devil King servants, and that spans over a few episodes. The series is only two seasons of KonoSuba, and they are about eleven episodes long. That does not leave a whole lot of room for filler. However, there is a movie coming out in about two weeks called “The Legend of Crimson,” so I believe that this series will continue.

Who Can Watch This?

This series has a little less partial nudity than Kill La Kill, but I think that anyone who is in their teens can appreciate this anime.  All of the episodes and the movie trailer are available at Crunchyroll.com.

Kill la Kill

Ok, I admit that this anime is quite weird, but I enjoyed binge-watching it in a day. That was something that I loved to do in the summer. I would go on the internet and search for some short anime to watch. Kill la Kill makes it on the list because of the sheer creativity. It emerged from Studio Trigger and had three volumes.

Plot

Now this anime is about a girl named Ryuko Matoi who is searching for her father’s killer. She has half of a scissor given to her that she uses as her weapon. She attends a high school called Honnouji Academy, whose students wear Goku uniforms (no, they are not from Goku) that were constructed with Life Fibers. Her scissor blade, conveniently, can cut through these uniforms. She eventually stumbles across a sentient sailor uniform that she names Senkestu. He is made entirely of Life Fibers and can transform her. One of her goals is to defeat the leader of the academy, Kiryuin.

More Powerful Goku Uniforms

Some uniforms are more powerful than others. The rankings are one-star, two-star, and three-star Goku uniforms. The more stars, the more powerful they are. Kiryuin has her Elite Four, who all wear three-star Goku uniforms.

Plot Twists

There are actually some major plot twists that occur in this anime. Spoiler alert, Kiryuin is Ryuko’s sister, not to mention that their mother is the CEO of the company that has a monopoly in the Life Fiber market. Ryuko actually gets brainwashed into fighting her sister. The Elite Four do not have their Goku suits anymore because Ryuko had already defeated and destroyed them. Their mother has a plan to destroy the earth and propagate Life Fibers throughout the universe.

Best Fighting Scenes

Some of my favorite fighting scenes include all of the battles between Ryuko and the Elite Four because this was the process that she had to go through to learn all of her new abilities. To think that such an ordinary high-school student would go from wielding a sharp piece of metal to having a magical uniform and being an expert in fighting enemies with Life Fibers. When she was fighting the marching band conductor Nonon Jakuzure, she has to learn how to fight while not being able to hear anything, not to mention that her Regalia suit can fly. This is where Senketsu evolves, and now he can apparently fly, as well. Eventually, she was able to have Senketsu only focus on the sound of her heartbeat so that he could concentrate.

Some Disclaimers

So there is a reason why this anime is so weird. This anime has an MA rating. Meaning that it is for adults. The whole anime has a LOT of partial nudity, and if you watch the anime, you will know what I mean. Life Fibers make up clothes, and when they get destroyed, so do the user’s clothes. If you are not fussy to that sort of thing, then you can actually appreciate what this anime has to offer.

Final Thoughts

I really did enjoy watching this anime, and I think that anyone who’s in their late teens and up can enjoy this anime as well. Just be prepared to close the Crunchyroll tab in case anyone walks in the room.

JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure (Part 4)

Recently I posted about part three of this series, but the fact that all of the parts are so different, they could be considered separate anime. This anime makes it on the list because it is an excellent sequel to the previous part. They all have mostly different main protagonists. This part has Josuke Higashikata as the main character. All parts have the same creator, David Production.

Main Characters

Josuke is the illegitimate son of Joseph Joestar. Therefore, he has a stand called “Shining Diamond.” The rules for stands is that you have to get shot by a specific arrow or be a Joestar to have one. Jotaro is still in this anime, but he is much older instead of being only 17 in part three. Koichi goes to the same school as Josuke, so they already know each other. The main villain is Yoshikage Kira, who has a stand called “Deadly Queen.” Okuyasu Nijimura is someone they meet on the way, but he has a stand called “The Hand,” which can scrape away anything from existence.

Stands

Josuke has a stand called “Shining Diamond,” which can throw punches at speeds of over 40 kilometers per hour. His unique ability is repairing broken items and healing wounds. Jotaro still has his “Star Platinum,” but since he can readily stop time now, it has been renamed, “Star Platinum The World.” Okuyasu has a stand called “The Hand,” which can scrape things away to somewhere unknown. These things include space, which he can scrape away to pull his opponents in closer. Koichi’s stand is a little different from the others because he got shot with an arrow to get his stand. It started as an egg, but then evolved into two other forms with increasing power. The last form can “freeze” the opponents by placing a hefty amount of weight on them.

Plot

The plot is pretty easy to follow along because there are already characters from the previous part. Jotaro has to find a kid named Josuke Higashikata and eventually finds him beating up bullies with his stand. Jotaro tries to intervene, but he insults Josuke’s hair in the process, ending up in a brawl.

The whole plot revolves around fighting minor enemies until getting to the main villain, Yoshikage Kira. He has a stand called “Killer Queen,” and it can turn anything into a bomb. Like Koichi’s stand, his stand also evolves and gets different types of bombs. His second bomb is an infrared tracking bomb that explodes whenever it gets close to the target. It also has the third bomb that is called “Bites The Dust” and can rewind time one hour back to prevent anyone from investigating him. He eventually comes into contact with all of the heroes and is about to press the button to activate the third bomb when Koichi freezes his hand.

Jotaro then has to get within five meters so he can stop time and reach him. Koichi bought him enough time so that he can do this.

Who’s Able to Watch This Anime?

There is the same amount of blood and gore as in part three, so pretty much anyone can watch this anime. Lots of fast-paced action and unique abilities will keep you watching every second. There is even a part five anime out, so if this is not enough for you, then there is much more to watch. As always, all of these anime shows are going to be available at Crunchyroll.com, where you can view all of your favorite shows for absolutely no cost.
