Bringing Back Dragon Ball

As this will be my last post on this blog, I would like to bring back Dragon Ball. The reason is that this is truly my all-time favorite anime and I would like to push it a second time onto you. It is made by Akira Toriyama and produced by Funimation.

Updates

I just love this anime too much to let it go. It’s been around since the ’90s and the quality has only gotten better with time. Let’s reflect upon what I have already posted about in the first post back in 2019.

The setting takes place in multiple planets and universes around age 850-900 but has a futuristic point of view such as flying cars and capsules that can expand into vehicles. The main character, Goku, is a Saiyan that came to Earth after his planet gets destroyed by Frieza, emperor of most galaxies at the time. Dragonball Z depicts new enemies arising and Goku and his warriors having to train until they reach new levels to stop them.

It’s almost like the series has plotlines for every major fight. The depth of the characters introduced in each saga is so unique and fresh that the audience never gets bored. Each adventure of the series has a different plotline. The battles do not get stale, either, because there is always something new the animators can bring to the table. The main antagonists include Vegeta, Frieza, Cell, Majin Buu, Beerus, and Jiren. Akira Toriyama even went back to make movies about Frieza and Beerus, pulling in millions of dollars from the growing audience.

Since 2019

Since the last time I posted about this anime, the dub had finally finished their coverage of the anime after the movie released in December of 2019. This was a lot later than the anticipated November finish, but nonetheless it got done.

It had been about thirty years since the start of the anime, beginning with Goku as a kid that came in a pod from the planet Vegeta, and yes that is the name of the anti-hero Vegeta because that is the planet that he was destined to rule. Of course, that planet was blown up by Freiza, and in the movie, Ressurection F, this is explained by Lord Beerus authorizing the destruction of the planet. To think that the anime has lasted this long with one of the most populous fan bases in the anime community. Perhaps it is the unique content that the anime gives to the viewer. Perhaps it is the non-stop yelling and powering up that Goku’s voice actor, Sean Schemmel, provides.

A good anime always has a unique element of fantasy that ordinary people would think impossible. It brings to life ideas and imagination that wouldn’t be possible without creators like Akira Toriyama and other creators. Both Dragonball Z and Dragonball Super are worth watching, even though together they are over 400 episodes long (not to mention even better movies). Go out and watch just one episode and you’ll be there for hours before you know it.
