Professor Furgiuele earned a bachelor’s degree in Environmental Systems Engineering from Penn State in 2002. Since then he has transitioned to a career in the arts and humanities, and began teaching English at Penn State Altoona in 2018. He enjoys helping his students to become successful college-level readers and writers. He grew up in Clearfield, Pennsylvania and enjoys traveling to India to visit family and to explore the Himalayan foothills.

Dr. Simpson began her teaching career in 1986 as an adjunct professor at San Francisco State University, teaching composition and business writing to first- and second-generation immigrants from throughout Asia and the Pacific Islands. After earning her doctorate in 1996, she taught multi-ethnic American literature as an Assistant Professor at The University of Texas of the Permian Basin in Odessa, Tx, before taking a position at Penn State Altoona in 2000. At Penn State Altoona, she teaches courses in African American literature, composition, and women’s studies. Dr. Simpson began coordinating the Composition Program in 2015.
