Research Report Update!

Last week, I made some progress on our research report, since due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we are unable to complete service hours and the service hours portion of the project has been lifted. For our research report, our topic is nuclear radiation accidents and how they can be prevented. I typed up some information on how we can prevent nuclear radiation accidents in the future, based on Fukushima, a nuclear radiation accident that happened 9 years ago in Japan. We are also planning on meeting via Zoom this week to create a road map on how to finish the EACAP project.

Presentation has been Recorded!!!

Hey everyone! On Monday, due to the pandemic, we all met up on Zoom to record our EACAP presentation! Our presentation topic was Nuclear Radiation Accidents, and we discussed a lot of different topics from major accidents at Fukushima and Chernobyl to solutions to the accidents, and other key info about our topic. Picture to come later!

My second meeting with the schools librarain

On February 25th, I have met with the schools librarian for more detailed information. We discussed times, stations for the STEM Night, and much more. The librarian had a great idea to have the event on Saint Patricks Day. The event was going to have green food and things related to that day. The librarian came up with stations dealing with STEM (robots, challenges, and coding) much more. We also discussed ways parents could get involved with the kids as well.

Research Report Update

Today we are putting the finishing touches on our EACAP Research Report! Our topic was Nuclear Radiation Accidents, and we had a lot of fun researching our subject and putting together the research report and powerpoint presentation. We will be submitting our report tonight-it includes a lot of neat information!

Final Reflection/Summary Post

Hi guys! The Green Team here with one final EACAP Project update! We were disappointed because we could not complete the service portion of our project, which was the 10th and Penn Elementary School Family STEM Night. However, because life throws your curveballs, we moved on and we completed the research portion of the project. Our topic was Nuclear Radiation Accidents. We had a lot of fun researching this topic and as a group we all learned a lot about this topic that we did not know about prior to researching the topic. We also had fun putting together the google slides presentation and recording it, and finally, writing the research report.

Overall, this was a very enjoyable and fun project. While we did not get to do the service portion, we still had a good time learning about a new subject and creating a presentation and research report about the topic. We also learned how to work as a team, communication skills, and so much more.

Green Team Intro Post

The organization we are working with is 10th & Penn Elementary School. We will be conducting a STEM night for their students and parents. Here is a little bit about each of us: Kenely is a freshman, and majoring in psychology with hopes of becoming a forensic psychologist or criminal attorney. Jose is a 2nd-year junior majoring in Business Finance with a minor in professional writing. He wants to become a corporate lawyer and start a pro-bono firm in the city of Reading. Jeremiah is a freshman who is from Reading. He is majoring in psychology and minoring in communications. Nick is a freshman majoring in Recreation, Parks and Tourism Management. He is from Macungie, PA and wants to work at a major theme park chain or at a major sports arena/stadium.

Ice Caps Planning

Due to the coronavirus aka. “COVID 19” plans for teaming up to participate  with a different school have been cancelled. Since then my group have made plans to do our own research in finding news dealing with consequences and solutions with ice caps and why it has causes so much commotion. Ice caps being what is an affect for the global warming causing the sea level to a rise and affect other things around the world. There was multiple things learned about through the whole project.

In conclusion,

Unfortunately, the component we were most looking forward to do was, the service component but the pandemic got in the way of it. We however got so much information from our research about meat production and the environment and with the three R’s (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle) in our service planning. Overall the project did raise my awareness. There is so much that is not said in the mainstream media about things that cause harm to the environment that I learned in this course and project. My message to everyone is to use this time to learn about the environment we are living in to be able to help our future. Many thing such as climate change and other environmental issues will continue to worsen if people ignore it. Be the change you wish to see!
