The twelfth annual Enhanced Oil Recovery Initiative meeting was held on The Pennsylvania State University Campus from October 12-13, 2017. There was an optional workshop on Thursday and technical presentations on Friday. Thursday evening a dinner was held.

Getting to University Park
The Penn State University Park Campus is located in State College, a small town in located in central Pennsylvania. If coming by car, State College is about a three-hour drive from Washington or Philadelphia.
There are three airports that have flights into the University Park Airport (Washington, Detroit, and Philadelphia). Make reservations as soon as possible as there are a limited number of flights in and out of state college. The train can also be taken from New York, Philadelphia, or Washington. The nearest Amtrak station is Huntingdon, PA. From there you will need to rent a car and drive about 20 miles to State College.

Parking
The workshop on October 1st is walking distance from the Nittany Lion Inn, if you choose to stay there. On the 2nd, meeting attendees may park in the parking lot directly in front of the EMS Energy Institute (Penn State Students may not park in this lot). Attendees must request a parking permit upon arrival.
About the Area
State College is a small town located in central Pennsylvania. It’s surrounded by forests but also close to several major cities. There are numerous activities that you can take advantage of in and around State College.
- Great hiking, boating, and fishing. Some of the best fly fishing in the U.S. is in this area. Areas include Rothrock State Forest, Black Moshannon State Park, and Raystown Lake.
- Penn’s Cave is located about 20 minutes from town and there are several very scenic drives through Amish communities.
- The Penn State Creamery, located on campus is a great place to get ice cream.
- Several Museums, including the All Sports Museum, the Pennsylvania Military Museum, the Boal Mansion, and the Palmer Museum of Art.
If you have time to travel a bit further, other possible destinations include.
- A large elk herd about an hour and a half drive from State College.
- Gettysburg and other civil war battle sites are located within a few hours drive.
- Washington and Philadelphia are just over a three-hour drive from State College. New York City is about four hours.
- Niagara Falls is located about four hours to the North, and Toronto Canada is five hours to the north.
- The Drake Well Museum is in Titusville, PA where in 1859 Edwin L. Drake drilled the oil well that launched the modern petroleum industry.
