One idea I have for a passion blog is writing book reviews. As an avid reader, I’m always searching through reviews written online before I can commit to adding the next book to my list of future reads. I don’t always have much free time in my day, but when I do, I view reading as an invaluable way to spend it. However, I always have to know if the book I’m reading is truly worthwhile, and scavenging through book reviews is the most probable way to do so. While not every review will align with my personal opinion of a book, I do appreciate people taking time out of their day to detail their experience with the book and help a reader determine if they would enjoy it themselves. I always have strong opinions on books after reading them and have a hankering to discuss them with anyone who will listen, so I feel like this idea will translate easily into blog posts. 

Something else I am passionate about is country music. My enthusiasm for the genre happened quickly. I went from clinging to the popular opinion of everyone I knew that “country music is terrible” to belting out every lyric to the songs that played on the country radio station almost overnight. My reverence for country music sustained itself for years, but over time I started to realize that the messages of some songs or artists don’t align with my personal views. I began to discover how sexist some of the lyrics to songs I once enjoyed truly were, and how difficult it is for female artists in country music, which all made it harder to keep listening and supporting. However, I do believe things are moving in the right direction, and I think it would be an interesting topic for a passion blog to examine sexism in country music and country radio. This could include analyzing lyrics of radio hits, dissecting the challenges for women in the country music industry, and considering the progress that has been and is currently being made in the genre.
