The true culture Penn State

we-are-penn-state

Penn State was founded on February 22, 1855. From that date, the culture and tradition has grown and had become one of the proudest and strongest Universities in the country. Penn State University has had numerous numerous occasions where it has shown how strong and proud the University and its community are.

On January 21, 1965, Martin Luther King spoke to about 8,000 people at the Recreation Building on the University Park campus. Dr. Kings spoke about the legacy of slavery and segregation in America. His choice to speak at Penn State showed how open and accepting the students, faculty and community are.

During the 1982 and 1986 football seasons, Penn State won the national championship under the late, great head coach Joe Paterno. Football is thought by the public to be the main focus of Penn State. This belief, is not true. Though Joe Paterno had a hand in building what the University has become today, the students and faculty are the center piece of the University.

Today, Penn State is ranked as the number 8th best public university according to U.S News & World Report’s “2014 Best Colleges Rankings”. We have also risen to the 37th best university overall in the country. We are known as a top recruiting university for businesses to seek employees for their company. That is something to be proud about.

We are more than a University struck by a sexual abuse scandal, or one that the public believes is all about football, getting drunk, and partying. Penn State is a University that prides itself on it’s innovative, open minded and bright students that will be the worlds future leaders. Our alumni network is over half a million strong and growing every year. We are a group over 40,000 students that stand together under one the proudest university in the world. We are… Penn Sate!
