What is Fracking?
Fracking is short for Hydraulic Fracturing. This is a method of drilling that has been used commercially for over half a century, and has increased dramatically over the past couple years. These spikes in drilling have resulted in surging natural gas and oil production at the expense of our precious groundwater and in the long term, our environment. There are now over 500,000 active natural gas wells in the U.S. alone. Thus far this has been the most successful alternative energy source to meet our current energy demands, but if we are not careful, there may be no planet left to fuel.
