As you know, we have been working on digitizing the Beatty collection. While the total number of odonates in the collection remains unknown, it is probably around 55,000. Therefore, we at the Frost are especially glad to have hit the milestone of imaging and updating the storage of over 10,000 odonates! With each Odonata specimen taking an average of a minute to image, it’s great to see hours of hard work adding up to some quality images and data.

The odonates we have imaged thus far include everything from the very large helicopter damselflies, the Pseudostigmatidae to the small Sympetrum dragonflies. The diversity in what we have seen so far is awesome, and there are still many boxes of odonates, particularly of Anisoptera, that we have yet to check out. We look forward to sharing many more photos and updates on this project!
