Fitness Resources
Beginning a healthy lifestyle can be difficult, but you don’t have to go at it alone. There are hundreds of resources available to help make you learn about (and commit to) a healthier lifestyle. I’ve outlined just a few of those resources for you here.
The Basics
You’ll need different resources as you move throughout your fitness journey. These sites offer great information for the beginner and beyond.
Web MD gives you information on health from a to z. Although it’s more commonly known for giving you deadly diagnoses for every little symptom, it provides a wonderful explanation on fitness topics.
I suggest visiting their Fitness 101 page as a beginner. This page lays out the important first steps in getting healthy—from goal setting to beginner workouts. It also provides some great information on the vocabulary of working out (reps, sets, warm up, cool down).
This site’s blog is part of the inspiration for my own blog. They offer a range of posts for normal men and women, specifically those with nerdier habits—reading, games, and TV. It also provides a great deal of information on how to start. The site’s Resources page offers links to the beginner information, including Beginner Body Weight Routine, How to Warm Up Properly, Habit Change for Newbies, Strength Training 101, and many others.
This site is great because it offers a lot of fun information and workouts that can grow with you as you exercise. As you become more comfortable with the basics, you can start doing routines like The Lord of the Rings Workout or The Star Wars Workout.
Beyond Beginners
Once you have mastered the basics, these sites will be useful in your fitness lifestyle. They’ll offer motivation and tips to help you maintain your healthy habits.
This site offers a range of information on health—from workouts to diet and exercise to mind and body to beauty. Although not all of this information may be necessary to you (getting glowing skin might not be your main goal), there’s a lot of great information.
The website consistently updates workouts, so you can maintain a fresh workout routine. When you have been working out for a while, it can be easy to get into a rut. This is when you’re doing the same workout routine over and over and no longer seeing any results. Staying fresh with Fitness Magazine’s workouts can help you reach your long term goals. Bonus: they also have videos of the workout routines so that you feel more comfortable trying new moves.
My favorite place to go for inspiration is always Pinterest. This site makes it easy to save (pin) your favorite workouts to easily find them later. Pinterest is also available in an app form, which makes it easy to access those pins when you need it most (like at the gym).
The site allows you to search for items, like “workouts” or “fitness.” You can also follow people’s “boards” (think virtual bulletin board) to stay up to date on new pins.
Aside from workout inspiration, there are a lot of motivational pins. When you have been working out consistently, at times it can be difficult to overcome the couch vortex. Take a peek at these motivational quotes, when you’re not feeling up to exercise.
The final resource you have is me. Always feel free to contact me for help with fitness—from goal setting to motivation. I’m here to help.
