We are happy to present the director and our three student workers that have been working closely in facilitating and coordinating the programs to expand global alumni engagement. Director
Dr. Anna Marshall serves as the Director of International Alumni Relations and Stewardship at Penn State Global. Before this role, she has worked for Penn State Harrisburg since 2012, first as a part-time professor, then a full-time International Student Adviser, an Assistant Director and Global Education Coordinator. Her job was to develop and oversee the execution of a comprehensive list of global education co-curricular programs, international student orientation, academic and social adjustment seminars, community outreach, and faculty and staff intercultural competency workshops at Penn State Harrisburg. She was also responsible for strategic planning, budget oversight, international student data analysis and trend studies, and program evaluation to facilitate the internationalization of the Harrisburg campus. In 2020-2021, Dr. Marshall directed the Penn State First program in Shanghai. Prior to working for higher education, she has worked for Lockheed Martin for eight years as a system integration analyst to provide database support and Asian Business Culture training at Lockheed Martin Syracuse.
Dr. Marshall is a scholar in early U.S.- Asia relations and Asian American Studies. She has forthcoming articles, “Social Landscape on WeChat: An Ethnographic Study of the Sunshine Dance Club of Central PA” for the Journal of Ethnic American Literature, and “An Interplay between Manifest Destiny and American Capitalism” for Routledge’s History of U.S. Foreign Relations. She has taught International Business, Asian cultural studies, Chinese language, and Information System Technology classes at Syracuse University and various colleges in Central Pennsylvania. Dr. Marshall has a baccalaureate from Yang En University (China), dual master’s degrees in English and Telecommunication & Network Management from Syracuse University, and a Ph.D. in American Studies from Penn State. She is the recipient of 2016 Staff Diversity Award at Penn State Harrisburg, 2020 Penn State Covid Spot Award, and the 2020-2021 Florence Tan Moeson Fellow, awarded by the Library of Congress.
