Diwali 2021 falls on today, Thursday, November 4.
The festival of lights, Diwali, which is also known as ‘Deepavali’ is celebrated over a period of 5-day long festivities, beginning with Dhanteras (celebrated on November 02), Choti Diwali, the main Diwali festivities, Govardhan Puja and Bhai Dooj.
Diwali, according to the Hindu traditions falls in the prosperous month of Kartik, on Amavasya night. Diwali remains one of the most prominent Hindu festivals and is celebrated with zest and fervor all across India and many other countries. According to ancient Hindu mythology, the festival of lights is celebrated to commemorate the victory of Lord Rama over the Demon King Ravana and subsequently, the triumph of light over darkness.
