On Dec. 3 2021, Penn State Global Alumni Engagement hosted a luncheon at India Pavilion. The luncheon started from 12.00p.m. to 1.30p.m. and 19 members were present. The purpose of the luncheon was to celebrate SAGA members for their hard work throughout the fall semester. Not only that, it is also to celebrate our success in raising fund for GivingTuesday. Penn State Global was able to raise $15,386 (and counting) for our international students and study abroad students from 119 donors this year. According to the “Leaderboard” on the homepage of GivingTuesday, Penn State Global ranks #7 for the amount raised among all 125+ campaigns, and ranks #6 for the number of gifts (127 gifts) received.
We started our gathering by having an Indian lunch. At around 1.10p.m., Dr. Anna gave an opening speech to thank all SAGA members for their participation and contribution throughout the whole semester. She also reminded all attendees to fill in the survey form that was created by Hamza. This is to gather feedback so we can make improvements for the next semester. Every attendees were also given a card that has a QR code to the Global Engagement site and also dates for the upcoming SAGA events. The cards were beautifully designed by Xingjian(Jeff). Afiqah later made an announcement regarding an upcoming video competition that will be held during the whole winter break. The details of the competition is mentioned below:
“For this upcoming winter break, our global alumni engagement team has come up with a short video competition for SAGA. The video (1-minute or less) should show the highlight of your holiday. Since we’re all a part of SAGA, the video must also have “Expand Horizons” as its theme. Which means you could either share something new that you are learning during the break, the places that you are visiting, alumni or international friends that you spent your time with, traditional dishes that you learned how to make and so much more. Generally speaking, the video could be about anything as long as it represents how you connect/network with people all around the world to expand your horizons. Be as creative as possible as the winners will be getting a gift card up to $100(1st place), $75(2nd place), $50(3rd place), $30(4th place), $25(5th place), $20(6th place). We’ll announce the winners during our first meeting for Spring Semester on January 10, 4:30-6pm. The video will be due on Jan. 5th and make sure to email the video to me. I will include all the details on our blog so make sure to check it out so you don’t miss out. Thank you.”

Dr. Anna then made an announcement about another competition that will be held during the same break. The top 10 SAGA members who are able to fill-in the SAGA contact form the most will receive a $20 gift card each. This is to encourage SAGA members to reach out to their alumni and optimize their break by expanding their network.
We congratulated our two SAGA graduates, Jiayuan “Anna” Shen and Shixiang “Rachel” Yuan. Then our event is closed by cheering, “Expand Horizons”. The end-of-semester luncheon served a nice closure for SAGA’s first semester of service in Spring 2021.
