On April 18 2022, Penn State Global Alumni Engagement hosted our last biweekly meeting for Spring 2022. The purposes of the meeting were to continue our group presentations (led by Group 5), conduct SAGA’s end-of-year program evaluation, and discuss the upcoming SAGA Award Ceremony. The meeting was held at Room 410 Boucke Building from 4.30p.m. to 6.00p.m. and 11 members were present.
The meeting began with an ice-breaker activity led by Afiqah and Alisia. We played hangman and Vanshika guessed all the countries correctly. The game ended with a casual discussion about traveling.
We later moved on to our second agenda which is the panel session to the Top 5 SAGA members who were able to reach out to their alumni the most. Panelists include Vanshika, Yifan, Afiqah and Eden. The panelists shared advices and tips on how they were able to reach out to their alumni. Some of the experiences shared were as below:
“I’ve been gathering data from earlier this year and I know most alumni personally.”
-Vanshika-
“The alumni that I reached out to are not from my countries. It’s easy for me to reach out to them since I have a lot of international friends.”
-Afiqah-
Dr. Anna concluded the discussion by going around the table asking for each SAGAs’ updates and feedbacks. Since a big portion of the current SAGAs will be graduating for Spring 2022, it’s important to hear their views and opinions. Dr. Anna then gave a moment for everyone to fill in the survey that was created by Alisia. The survey will help SAGA to improve for the upcoming semester.
Our discussion was followed by alumni contact tips presentation by Group 5 (represented by Youngsuk, Afiqah, and Jeff). They delivered a short yet concise tips in reaching out to alumni. The next agenda of the meeting was for the SAGA updates. Afiqah showed everyone the recent video that was uploaded on Penn State Global Engagement YouTube that would be helpful in writing resume and navigating for jobs. Alisia then reminded everyone to ask for alumni’s consent before giving their emails to be featured on Global Alumni Spotlight. Jeff also added that the SAGA WeChat has now reached to nearly 1,900 followers. Dr. Anna then continued the meeting by reminding SAGAs to register for the upcoming award ceremony. She later proceeded to give a brief outline for the ceremony.
Meghan Cassidy also spoke at the meeting by promoting a stress-management workshop for the upcoming weekend. The program will be fully sponsored by the University of Florida. More details can be found below:
