Works In The Helping Relationship

The world view that I feel as if I most relate to is the Contextual world view. I have come to this conclusion because of some of the experiences in my life and what I believe the contextual world view means. I believe that the contextual world view is stating is that a person’s development is affected by the environment they grew up in and thus creating their perspective of the world. In my life I believe that I wouldn’t be who I am today if it weren’t for the environment I grew up in and the experiences I had to show me different scenarios; and being able to then take what I was being taught and incorporating my own beliefs into my overall perspective. For example, growing up I was always taught that you shouldn’t judge a person by the color of their skin but by what they brought to the table. However, as I got older I started to realize that this was not everyone’s perspective of how they should view others. I then was able to see that while this was not other people’s perspective of how people should be judged does not mean that I should then adopt their perspective or judge them for their perspective. Also, I believe that there is a great importance in relationships not only with the people around you but the area around you that make a person who they are. Another example from my life would be meeting friends that lived in the city verses me living in the country and the different life styles we lived. Although, they did not live in the same area as I did we still had some of the same beliefs. However, we also differed in many ways in what we did for fun, what we were allowed to do as kids and many other things. This taught me that not only can your experiences influence who you are but the environment you live in can also influence who you become. Both of these examples are just a few of the experiences in my life that have led me to the Contextual world view.
