Co-authored by Lab Director Mark Ortiz and Inaugural Youth Advisory Board members Charles Mankhwazi & Neeshad Shafi, this collaborative research article develops an intersectional perspective on the advocacy of young people from the Middle East & North Africa (MENA) region in the U.N. COP 27 climate negotiations held in Egypt in 2022. We argue that scholarship on youth climate advocacy should be attentive to the ‘spatial politics’ that youth activists mobilize in their constructions of place, scale, and region and how these spatial politics play into political claims-making.
