Juan is a Biochemistry and Molecular Biology major from Bogotá, Colombia. He enjoys playing volleyball in his free time. He also enjoys cooking traditional Colombian dishes and Asian foods. Juan is involved in the Colombian American Association as part of the e-board and he is a Latino Caucus member.
The goal of his research is to study the neurological phenotypes associated with RNAi knockdown of genes involved in both purine and pyrimidine metabolism in the nematode C. elegans. He is specifically working on the knockdown of the gene paic-1 and observing the neurological phenotypes that those worms present after paic-1 knockdown has happened.
