The library renovation is scheduled to move into the next phase in mid-June, 2016. At that time, Phase 1 will be completed and we will open the portion of the library that has been undergoing renovation since December 2015. At that time library users will be able to experience features such as:
- Improved electrical infrastructure
- New small study rooms with self-service reservations for groups of students
- A new south entrance accessible from the courtyard between the BMR and the hospital cafeteria
- Our new south staircase to the second floor
- A new service point with library faculty and staff and IT helpdesk support together
- Flexible, comfortable furniture ideal for group and individual study
- Our book collection will be back! And our reserves collection will be unchanged.
- Computer workstations throughout the space
- New carpeting, lighting, and paint
During Phase 2 of the renovation, the north portion of the library that is currently occupied will be renovated. The circular staircase will remain but undergo cosmetic updates. The lobby outside the library will also be renovated. As a result, there will be times when the circular staircase and the library’s elevator between ground floor, 1st and 2nd floors will be inaccessible. At times the bathrooms in the lobby will be inaccessible, as well as blocked ingress and egress to the first floor through Staircase #4. Facilities Management will provide alerts and signage to provide wayfinding to alternate routes.
During Phase 2 Renovation, we will be working on other exciting changes to Harrell Health Sciences Library–Research and Learning Commons, such as:
- Our new One Button Studio which provides professional-quality recording without the need for technological know-how
- Our new Technology Innovation Sandbox, including 3×3 video wall, 3D printing and scanning, and specialized software
- Impromptu presentation space
- History of Medicine display and seating area
- Additional small study rooms with self-service reservations for groups of students
- A more inviting north entrance
- 24 hour badge access to the library
