2022 Symposium

2022’s 6th Annual Huck Life Sciences Symposium was an ambitious return to in-person events! Our two keynote speakers, Richard Harris and Dr. Deboki Chakravati, spoke about bioethics and science communication. They were also joined by two Dr. Jessica Myrick and Cole Hans from Penn State for our Speak Life! Science Communication panel to discuss careers in science communication and advice for effective communication.  We also learned about some exciting research from Huck students, with nine student oral presentations, four elevator pitch presentations, and 28 poster presentations. With more than 130 participants, the 6th Life Sciences Symposium was a triumphant return to the in-person symposium experience.

Richard Harris

Science Friction: What’s slowing progress in biomedical research | May 12 at 9:00 AM
Richard Harris spent more than 35 years as a science correspondent at National Public Radio. He covered everything from the Covid pandemic to climate change and the Deepwater Horizon disaster. His travels took him around the world. In 2015 he took a leave from NPR to write a book. Rigor Mortis, published in 2017, details the challenges of producing rigorous and reproducible research in the biomedical sciences.  The book was a finalist for the National Academy of Sciences’ communications award. Richard stepped away from daily journalism in 2021.

Deboki Chakravati, PhD
