Please join the Department of Humanities and the Harrell Health Sciences Library at Penn State College of Medicine in Hershey, Pa., to discuss selected books by contemporary writers of color in the U.S. We will meet via Zoom Oct. 25 and in person Nov 1, 2023 in Room C1800 at 12 noon – 1:00 p.m. to discuss the book, Carlisle Indian Industrial School:
Indigenous Histories, Memories, and Reclamations. Edited by Jacqueline Fear-Segal and Susan D. Rose. This collection interweaves the voices of students’ descendants, poets, and activists with cutting edge research by Native and non-Native scholars to reveal the complex history and enduring legacies of the school that spearheaded the federal campaign for Indian assimilation.
The goal of this monthly discussion is to strengthen our community ties and expand our understanding of each other through reading. Feel free to join if you have read all, part or none of the book. Registration is required to receive the link to attend the Zoom meeting. For registered attendees, meeting information will be sent by email the day before the event.
These events are free and open to all Penn State College of Medicine and Penn State Health faculty, staff, students, trainees and community members.
