Humanism in medicine to me means seeing the whole person and asking not just when, where, how questions about a patient’s concern, but also the why. It means being a good listener and being able to see “the whole forest, but also the individual trees;” to me humanism in medicine is realizing that sometimes it is more about the compassion and empathy you can show to a patient then the knowledge you can convey.
