Pennsylvania User Context
Pennsylvania is a state located in the northeastern part of the United States. The two largest cities are Philadelphia in the East and Pittsburgh in the west. It contains both rural and urban environments.
In a typical rural community in Pennsylvania people typically live in single-family houses on plots of land that are less than an acre up to 5 acres and commute to work in the nearest city or town. Some people live in single-family homes on farms while others live in small-town centers in apartments with little or no access to private green space.
It is common to buy groceries and building supplies from the store. This requires a typical 10-20 minute car ride.
Typical summer temperatures range from 75°F to 95°F during the day and 55°F to 70°F at night. In the winter the daytime high temperature ranges from 33°F to 45°F and the nighttime low temperature ranges between 19°F to 30°F.
Pennsylvania does not provide an ideal outdoor climate all year long and many people may not have private access to outdoor green space. An indoor hydroponic system would benefit this type of user by allowing them to grow vegetables all year round no matter their access to private outdoor green space.

Ghana User Context
Yaa Mansa is a single mother in Ghana, she works as a middle school teacher, but her salary is not ideal for her situation. As a mother with a breastfeeding baby, she is very concerned with what she eats. She wishes she could eat a healthy balanced diet every day, that will give her nutrients to provide her baby with the best milk, but that isn’t cheap. Yaa wishes to grow vegetables to supplement her daily meals. Yaa Mansa wants to grow vegetables like carrot, cucumber, lettuce, cabbage, and other expensive vegetables that she can’t afford with her salary. Unfortunately,Yaa Mansa lives in Acca, the capital city of Ghana, in a rented apartment. Yaa doesn’t own a piece of land in the city to be able to grow vegetables. An affordable, and easy to manage hydroponics system might be the solution for Yaa Mansa. By developing a self-sustaining vertical hydroponics system, Yaa Mansa can grow vegetables from the comfort of her single room apartment.
