Nutrients
Nutrient solutions should include nitrogen, phosphate, and potash.
Nitrogen
Nitrogen gives plants the energy that they need to grow.
Phosphate
Phosphorus Deficiency
You can tell if there is a phosphorus deficiency by looking at your plants. If there is a deficiency, the plants will look small and are producing little or no flowers.
Excess Phosphorous
This is unlikely because plants have a hard time absorbing phosphorus. Phosphorus is vital for plant growth.
Potash
Potash improves water retention, taste, and color. It can also help improve the plant’s resistance to disease. Potash should not be added to the solution when sodium chloride is already present.
Adjusting pH
pH adjustments should be tested on a single plant before you make changes to the entire system.
Lower pH
Add small amounts of distilled white vinegar.
Increase pH
Add sodium hydroxide or potassium hydroxide to the water.
pH can also be adjusted by using pH up or pH down, which can be purchased online
