As far back as I can remember, I have have always been an outgoing person. No matter where I have been, school, work, or in social situations I am the first person to introduce myself to others that I meet. I am that person that will stand in line at the grocery store and talk to the person in front or behind me in line. I have never been one to be timid or shy.
I currently support a group of engineers in my role as an HR BP. Most engineers that I have met are somewhat introverted, and I really enjoy trying to pull them out of their comfort zone. Whether simply walking down the hall to get a cup of coffee, I make sure to say “hello” or “good morning” to everyone I pass. Most respond back, but some look at me like I have three heads.
I recently received my Strengths profile and two of my strengths were competition and relator. When reading the definition of both strengths, they seem at odds, but when I took some time to reflect, I believe that they can complement each other. At work I love to lead teams or groups of people. I get satisfaction from the teams success and watching the group succeed. I feel that the combination of being able to relate well with others and being driven to be successful are two great trait to have.
