This past weekend we welcomed the Penn State community to the arts district of campus for the IllumiNATION Sustainability Art Expo. The expo featured art work and live performances from Penn State students. These ranged from 2D visual art, to live opera performances.
Many people who were walking down Curtin Rd. had their attention grabbed by our “swag table” and pathway of decorated lanterns leading from Palmer Plaza to the entrance of the Theater Building. Once at the Theater Building, attendees were invited to participate in arts and crafts activities led by our fantastic volunteers. This included silk screen printing t-shirts, making paper notepads decorated with leaf stamps, and enjoying complimentary Berkey Creamery ice cream.
This weekend was part of the month long IllumiNATION art festival, highlighting sustainability, environmental, and climate refugee issues. The pieces of art on display all represent different humanitarian and social justice issues. IllumiNATION is a representation of how art and performance can make a sense of community and be a valuable tool in social discourse.
We would like to thank all of the Penn State students who participated and shared their work with the community. We would also like to thank all of our guests that attended the expo this weekend, you guys made it all the work going into the expo worth it! And to our volunteers, thank you for giving the Penn State community your time to execute this event. We couldn’t have done it without you!
Keep an eye on our Instagram and this website for more events coming the rest of April, and we can’t wait to see you all again for our next IllumiNATION Art Expo!
