Have you ever heard of PRIDE? Pride is one of the most uplifting, up in your face, flamboyant positive stance for LGBTQ members against discrimination and violence. Some would even say that Pride is as queer as it gets for LGBTQ people.
The term ‘Pride’ simply means to have self-affirmation.
To have a sense of gay pride means to be out and proud. More importantly, a person would be satisfied with their sexuality and able to represent themselves accordingly.
There are many things that happen with ‘Pride’. There are many Pride events held by various states, organizations, and campaigns. The most popular type of event of them all are parades. Pride parades happen in various countries, including all over the United States. During Pride parades, people celebrate their identity with tons of festivities. Parades call attention and activism while masquerading to promote the causes that LGBTQ people promote.
During a Pride event or parade, mostly everyone wears clothing that is against normative fashion and usually is quite colorful. The clothing is symbolism for support. By wearing rainbow colors, you are therefore supporting the cause. You might also see people wearing merchandise with clever phrases.
In addition, it is also a good idea to have posters or flyers with pro-causes on them. It promotes gay pride even more. Unfortunately, as much as many would show their support, others will show their distaste for LGBTQ people and causes. There are plenty of other people who go to Pride parades or events to denounce the credibility of LGBTQ people. But this is mostly overshadowed by the positivity and out cry by people who attend Pride.
Have you ever been to a Pride parade or event? How was it? Is there any in your area?
