A hands-on MATLAB workshop was held on Thursday, February 9, 2017 from 6:00 – 7:00 pm in 103 Leonhard building. This workshop is presented by Jake Mascaro, a MATLAB student ambassador. He is also a senior in Biomedical Engineering, working towards a profession in medicine.
Jake started by giving a brief introduction of MATLAB and guided students through a real application on MATLAB. The data visualization demo was done on solar radiation estimation. One of the motivations of this analysis is for designing photovoltaic systems in areas such as developing countries where solar-radiation measurements are not easily available. A simple and low-cost way to estimate solar radiation and thus estimate the power that can be generated from photovoltaic cells was desired. Throughout this demo, the audiences learned how to develop and test predictive model and also data visualization.
