Katrina Alford is a Ph.D. student of rural sociology and demography at Penn State. She is interested in inequality across the rural-urban continuum, including poverty, education, and health. She has participated in community development projects in the Mississippi Delta and research involving spatial disadvantage, community capitals, and economic implications of foreign-born populations. She hopes to bring together these interests to engage in policy-relevant research regarding rural community resilience.
Claire Pendergrast, Syracuse University
Claire Pendergrast is a Ph.D. student at Syracuse University in the Department of Sociology. She is interested in aging, rural communities, social policy, and health disparities. Claire has worked in public health policy at the federal, state, and local levels, supporting projects on community resilience to disasters, health communication, environmental justice, and healthy aging. She is passionate about working in partnership with communities and policy stakeholders to improve health and reduce disparities.
Danielle Rhubart, Syracuse University
Danielle Rhubart, Ph.D. is a Postdoctoral Fellow in the Lerner Center for Public Health Promotion at Syracuse University. She earned her Ph.D. in Rural Sociology and Demography from the Pennsylvania State University. Her research focuses on spatial disparities in the structural and policy determinants of health, as well as the intersection of health and the environment. She uses quantitative analyses of secondary data and mixed methods to examine inequalities in place-level health and well-being.
