It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia

I definitely feel the Winter coming to State College, especially today. The windchill is beginning to burn my face. I’ve never experienced a Penn State Winter, but if the windchill hurts now, I can’t imagine what it’ll be like in the dead of winter. Anyways, it also rained this week, dampening my mood even more so, at least it is friday though! So, for this week’s passion blog post, I wanted to watch something funny, but also short. I heard from a few friends that It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia is very funny. I decided to watch it, and to my surprise I laughed a few times during the episode. Usually, I am not a big fan of T.V show comedies since they are a hit-or-miss. Some comedies I like, but others like The Office or Parks and Recreation, I just don’t find very funny. Anyways, this pilot episode was mainly consisted of racism and homosexuals. These three guys who own a bar meet Tyrell, a friend of the one guy’s sister. When they first met him, they didn’t expect him to be African American. Then, they started making all these racist comments on how he must be related to all other blacks, and other stereotypical racist comments. When they said these things I laughed, not because they were true, but because their ignorance is humorous. Throughout the episode, they try prove that they are not racist by trying to make African American friends. Terrell also helps them promote their bar making it “the hottest gay bar in Philadelphia”. If I was Terrell and these people were making stupid comments like that, I would not even try to help them out. In this episodes, different comedic situations happen. For example, one of the bar guy’s sisters has been trying to flirt with Tyrell the whole time, but she finally figures out he’s gay. Another example is when one of the bar owners who is straight accidentally spends the night with two gay men, pushing him to reestablish the bar as a regular bar after.

Overall, I would say I enjoyed it. It was a relaxing show to watch where I didn’t have to think about in order to laugh. Its humor was at a surface level, but it was still enjoyable after a long week of class, when you just don’t want to think anymore. I would recommend it to anyone who is just looking for a mindless show to watch after a long day. I know I will definitely watch it while I’m eating lunch or taking any kind of break.
