The most important meal of the day: breakfast.

We’ve been fed this line from our parents for almost two decades at this point. Yeah, it starts your metabolism which helps you digest food later in the day to help maintain a healthy weight, but most importantly you’re never frowned upon for eating junk! I’m not sure why breakfast, regarded by many as the most important meal of the day, is often so unhealthy!

Before I get into the nitty-gritty of this review I must say that I apologize for the short health lesson because I know you’re here to find out the best. The bold. The scrumptious. The other places that can be described with more delicious adjectives. So without further ado, the Waffle Shop…

Located at 364 E College Ave, The Waffle Shop is whipping up breakfast near the south residence halls starting at 6 a.m. daily! As we all probably have been made aware, the breakfast at South is open at frustrating times. I don’t know how they can open for BREAKFAST at 10:30! Anyway, I can confidently say that I’ve found a great option for when you wake up and want some instant grub.

Over the weekend I stopped by The Waffle Shop for some early morning breakfast.  I was seated immediately, which I know is not always the case, especially on football weekends. The interior is pretty drab, and the booths are all wooden, so there’s no padding for your bottom. As disappointing as it may be, it’s fine because the food was exceptional. Faced with a huge menu, the staple of any cheap diner, I was distraught because I am always so indecisive. After wracking my brain, I went with the Belgium waffle with strawberries and whipped cream, all things that are rare commodities around here. Not to mention that the place has waffle in the name!

Soon after I placed my order, the nice waitress came back with my order. Placed right in front of my watering mouth was a hot, fluffy waffle piled up with whipped cream and strawberries. As I dug into my meal I was pleasantly surprised. I went to scarf it all down, but the waffle was so big that I simply couldn’t.

My breakfast standards are quite honestly pretty low, and in my opinion it’s hard to mess up something as simple as a waffle. With that being said, I truly believe that The Waffle Shop is an asset due to its convenient location and portion size. Their thick, fluffy waffle really hit the spot, and I can guarantee that I’ll be back soon.
