Welcome to my blog! Here’s a brief intro about what I’ll be covering …
There is nothing in this world I love more than a great meal. And if the school is going to make me walk several minutes, if not more, to go get my meal, you can count on me making sure I love what I’m eating. But for me to make certain that I am getting the best meal possible, I have to taste as many dining halls, à la cartes, fast food, and dine-in restaurants, before I can decide upon where the best and the worst spots of PSU are located.
My hard work will not be in vain. In my past and future posts I will be reviewing different locations, on and off campus, for you. Enjoy.
First up on my list of places I’m reviewing this semester is West Dining Commons. Made up of Waring Square Food Court (pictured below), The West Wing, Sisu Convenience Store, and the Sisu Coffee Bar, West has a lot to offer to us.
I’ll shoot you straight – west is the shit. I love this place. In a previous post I reviewed the paninis from In A Pickle (the à la carte in Redifer) and I said that they are the “best food in Redifer”, and while I believe that this is true, The West Wing outdoes the Redifer paninis Every. Single. Time. Not only is this true, but The West Wing is the à la carte to end all other à la cartes. Tuesdays and Thursdays you can catch me at The West Wing with a panini that is so thicc it’ll literally make your mouth water.
What makes the West Wing so special is its wawa-deli-style ordering system (pictured below). The kiosks drastically reduce the possibility of you messing up your panini order – something I combated at In A Pickle by writing down all of the good sandwich combos in my phone. Here, however, all of your potential ingredients are laid out right in front of you – with pictures!! Not only can you order paninis of off these bad boys, but you can also order a variety of other sandwiches, burgers, fries, etc. I really recommend getting a chicken panini with pepper-jack cheese, onions, banana peppers, tomato, and chipotle mayo – that shit SLAPS. Not only are the choices expansive here, but they also have some cookies. You might’ve heard of them.

For those of you who thought I was going to be another “west cookies are the best” hypebeast, you’re wrong. I don’t know what to say except that you must’ve been high when you tried these and liked them. I’ll be honest (not that I am not honest the entire time, I’m just emphasizing that I’m not disagreeing with a popular opinion just because), I didn’t get behind the hype of the “perfectly under-cooked cookies that have been handcrafted by God himself (or a non-gender-specific pronoun)”.
Before I tear these cookies a new one, I’d like to say that I have not met anyone (yet) who shares this opinion… When I first saw these cookies I was pumped. They do look perfectly under-cooked, warm, and gooey, but the taste did not live up to my expectations. To me, it was a moist, salty bite of an underdone cookie. At first I thought that I had gotten unlucky with my cookie, so I tried them again. Since trying them a second time I have no new news to report to you.
My opinions have been confirmed: the west cookies are a sodium trap – end of story.
Other than the food choices, which I mentioned are extremely expansive at The West Wing and are even more expansive at Waring Square Food, west commons is a great place to eat your food at and get work done. The West Wing, so far, is my favorite place to sit and have my meals. It is so new and clean, and the other parts of the west commons hold their own as well. Overall, I would HIGHLY recommend heading out to west every now and again to get some food from The West Wing or Waring Square Food, you won’t regret it!
Justin, great piece of work here. The formatting of your page is absolutely stellar. I got to step up my game. I would have to agree that West’s buffet out-beats anyone else. BUTTT Redifer’s In A Pickle offers so many more options. Also, why is there only a 10% discount at The West Wing??? What is that about? I’m going to go broke if I keep eating there. I look forward to coming back to this page throughout the upcoming months. I’m definitely a foodie too, so I appreciate the advice!!
very nice and useful article for me. congratulations.
