Considering the fact that I have never written a rhetorical essay before, I was extremely nervous about taking on this assignment. When we first examined the advertisements in class, I wasn’t too sure what I was supposed to gather from just one picture. As people started sharing their analysis it became more and more evident how all the little nuances in the advertisements added up to the big picture. The more I looked at my ad, the more details I was able to pick out that meant to persuade the viewer to take up the ads offer. Every ad contained the elements of ethos, pathos and logos and they worked together to promote a single cause above all else.
When I started to write my rhetorical analysis essay, I first had difficulty picking a topic that I would be able to talk about for four pages. I tried to look at ads that I could relate to or that felt relevant to my life. I finally decided to analyse the Doctor Who 50th Anniversary Advertisement campaign. Not only is Doctor Who one of my favorite show, but I also find the 50th Anniversary campaigns to be one of the most attention grabbing and innovative I have seen. Because of my passion for the show and this topic I feel certain that I can do justice to the ads and fully convey their message in four pages.
The 50th anniversary campaign uses aspects of the show that are closest to the hearts of the viewers and portrays them in a way that captivates their interests. Some of the aspects of the ad campaign could certainly be considered teasers. They allude to possible comebacks from past characters that had previously assumed would never return. I am so excited for the 50th Anniversary because of how incredible the commercials look and I can’t wait to see how all the predictions and theories of fans will play out.
