In Fall 2019, Council of Lionhearts took over the Thanksgiving Food Drive from Students Engaging Students. Even though this project seemed daunting at first, slowly but surely, pieces of the puzzle started to fall in place as organizations, offices, and departments started confirming their participation and donations. Local businesses likewise contributed their resources to make this project possible. Council’s service organizations all came together to volunteer their time in collecting, organizing, and sorting boxes during Collection Week. In the first year, Council was able to provide each site with the number of baskets that they requested – over 300 baskets! The sites that benefitted from the food drive include: Centre Safe, State College Area School District, AIDS Resource Alliance, Pregnancy Resource Center, Faith Centre, Youth Service Bureau, Salvation Army, Interfaith Human Services, Catholic Charities, Park Forest Day Nursery, Central PA Community Action, Bellefonte Middle and High School, Bellefonte School District, Housing Transitions, and State College Food Bank.
