Clearance Requirements

All Nittany Lions Read/Nittany Lions Count Mentors are required to obtain each of the clearance documents prior to placement with a Community Partner (as part of the hiring process):

PA Child Abuse History Clearance
Pennsylvania State Police Criminal Record Check
Federal Bureau of Investigation Fingerprinting

Some positions will also require the National Sex Offender Registry Verification (NSOR). Additional clearances may be required for individuals who have resided outside of Pennsylvania in the last five years.

All clearances are initiated by PSU upon hire. Students are encouraged to obtain copies of each clearance for their records and potential presentation to their site. Clearances are typically valid for five years from the date of issue.
