WIP: What is Advocacy?

I suppose for the upcoming assignment, it would be important to know what advocacy means before hoping to continue on.  To me, advocacy is any form of raising awareness and pushing for a cause.  I assume this is probably most effective in a public situation.  Advocacy varies depending on what exactly you are trying to advocate for/about.  You might want to simply raise awareness or you might also want to include fundraisers, etc.  For my particular advocacy project, I will be making use of the advocacy fair.  I know some kids from other RCL classes and they are required to do this for their assignment.  I don’t think that a poster presentation (or whatever you will display at the fair) covers all realms of what advocacy is.  I think it is a great opportunity for students who need that type of outlet to advocate; however, for those who don’t, teachers shouldn’t force it.  I am struggling here, because I believe that advocacy is a broad term and can be interpreted and played out in several ways.
