Review: NEO is a learning management system. They started out with a web-based application and recently development a mobile app for system access. Their LMS is called EDU2.0 and I was introduced to it by a colleague during one of my first LTS positions, I’ve used it ever since. I was excited when they released an app in 2015 to support the web application and it’s made many improvements since. I use EDU2.0 on a regular basis in my classroom. My students create their own profiles for our class portal, I describe EDU to the students as Facebook for school because the interface is very similar. I post class assignments and announcement on our newsfeed. I also give and collect assignments using this platform. What I personally love about EDU is that is archives all my posts and information so I can reuse classroom materials with different sections etc. With the mobile app, available students can access our class information at any place and at any time. When I’m absent from school I can still collect assignments, when students miss they can log on and check the calendar for what we did in class that day. It’s a staple in my classroom and in communicating regularly with my students. I think that EDU supports many of the ideas and theories we’ve been discussion throughout the course. The fact that students can set up their own accounts, a profile picture and a description allows them to develop an identity as a student in my class and among their peers who also use the program. I think it encourages future learning and supports learning across contexts. Unlike public social media sites, I have yet to experience any privacy or cyber bullying concerns with the program. I can control many aspects of the site like approving posts, I have private messaging disabled between students and our class portal is private! Unless an individual as our class URL and a code to access the course, they can’t see or participate in the system. I’m passionate about this application! I never hear of anyone else using it, but there are so many LMS applications out there like Google classroom, Moodle etc. I’ve done research and considered using other resources but I can’t find anything that I like as much!
