What is my version of happiness you ask? Gosh, that is a loaded question that I could take hours answering. But let me slow down, I’m sure that you wouldn’t want to hear me go off on a tangent about everything in life that makes me happy. I’ll settle for two simple things.
Music and Theatre.
You may be thinking, simple? Those are two very broad topics that are far from simple. But they are two of the main things in life that make me happy, besides my family and friends of course.
Music has been my main passion since I first picked up the clarinet in fourth grade. Now, fast forward about nine years or so, I am a Music Education major at this university and playing the clarinet in both Symphonic Band and the Penn State Blue Band. Crazy to think of how far I have come. But it makes me, and my parents (lol), immensely happy.
Music fills me with joy and contentment, no matter what emotions I may be feeling in that moment, it takes me to a special place where I can enjoy creating beautiful sounds in an ensemble.
As for my passion for theatre, specifically musical theatre, I have it to thank for my coming out of my shell in fourth grade. Being on stage and being the comedic relief for an audience and bringing smiles to their faces is a joy that I never knew I could feel. My favorite role that I have played is Cogsworth in Disney’s Beauty and the Beast. Playing an uptight and British talking clock is a memory that I will cherish forever.
In not so many words, music and theatre are two passions that I could not live a happily fulfilled life without.
Hi Adeline
First off, that’s so cool that your literally in the Blue Band!! I’m a percussionist and I used to watch their performances. I am also a big fan of musical theater and think it would be cool if you did like reviews of your favorite musicals or your best roles like you did with Cogsworth. Either way I am super excited to read your posts.
Hi Adeline! I loved the tone that you used to write this entry. It felt as if we were having a personal conversation. I listen to a wide variety of music, but I do not play any instruments or make music. It would be interesting to get a behind-the-scenes view into the steps and dedication it has taken to perfect your craft. I can’t wait to hear you at the football games! It could also be really interesting to hear about how you have to prepare for each role you take on and how different shows highlight different parts of your personality.
